We had to provide one image representing our project. I've modified the daitumn logo. The other one (i did after submitting the image) i had a 3D mock up of buildings and i projected the daitumn logo on

Exactitudes

Inspired by a shared interest in the striking dress codes of various social groups, the Rotterdam-based photographic team of Ari Versluis & Ellie Uyttenbroek have been systematically hamstringing such permutations of received identity for ten years. They call their series Exactitudes, a contraction of “exact” and “attitudes”. It’s August Sander and Eugène Atget turned on their heads by Bernd and Hilla Becher - a direct assault on the mythic formula that photography plus the street equals authenticity.

Nokia's recent 'ad' called Meet Your City has been a great inspiration of how you can bring people together by finding a theme, a common thing (in this case London)

Project Summary

The aim of this project is to raise awareness for a newly established foundation, the ‘Daitumn Foundation’. I want to focus on guerrilla advertising to promote this name by applying into the philosophy and concept of graphic design innovative spatial work using creative media. As for promotion purposes, guerrilla advertising can take the form of a theatrically staged public scene or event using it directly towards the public and the viewer.

Context

Daitumn Foundation is a multicultural/international foundation that supports the philosophy of the fusion of art and design. It believes in the institution of craftsmanship and in handmade products. It needs the appropriate advertising to be exposed to the public and also expand abroad. Fundamental aim of the foundation is the promotion of uniqueness, up-coming designers and the experimentation of materials. Daitumn achieved in its short existence a launch party, a coming up exhibition in September 2008 in Cyprus and the representation of Cyprus in the Charlemagne Youth Competition in Germany.

Rationale (Why the project is relevant to you and to GDComm practice)

This project is relevant to me due to the fact that I am one of the founding members of this foundation and I am part of the creative team as a graphic designer & media communication. It will be an ongoing project for me as I will still be part of it as soon as I finish my degree. The way I chose to use for its promotion, has both a personal interest as well as it is within the scope of my present academic degree, since I intend to work in and promote at my home country.

Topicality and future projection potential

Guerrilla advertising has never been applied in Cyprus so it would be an up-coming and non-traditional way of advertising that can have, if used correctly an effective result in the promotion of the foundation. It is a medium that has a great impact on the public as it uses unconventional ways for advertising a brand/name. Although guerrilla advertising is a medium that was used from way back in the years, it’s a medium that is currently used in the Netherlands, Italy, New Zealand and applied in Cyprus would be perceived as innovative.

Fluid Painting
Using mixed media within a liquid medium, moving fluid paintings are created which continually change and develop over time and are frozen at a particular moment in time through the use of photography.

Chris and Peter Parks were commissioned by director Darren Aronofsky to produce their special brand of organic fluid effects in the movie 'The Fountain'. In order to make his vision of space timeless, Aronofsky steered clear of traditional computer graphics and instead shot with Chris and Peter over a period of 8 weeks to produce something that was unique and would not age.

Pablo Valbuena's project is focused on the temporary quality of space, investigating space-time not only as a three dimensional environment, but as space in transformation. For this purpose two layers are produced that explore different aspects of the space-time reality. On the one hand the physical layer, which controls the real space and shapes the volumetric base that serves as support for the next level. The second level is a virtual projected layer that allows controlling the transformation and sequentiality of space-time.

"Bonus Round Exposure"
'These photographs are long exposures taken while playing video war games of the 80's created by Atari, Centuri and Taito. The photographs were shot from video game screens while I played the games. By recording each second of an entire game on one frame of film, I captured complex patterns not normally seen by the eye.'

❉ Preliminary Research ❉

Some of the notes i've been taking from the tutor's comments about Final Major Project are the following:
Contemporary (show contemporary awareness)
Have passion for the idea (something that will enjoy )
The result needs to reflect your skills (photography? experimentation? performing? moving image?)
Indicates what you want to do next (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _)

As a starting point i have the theme of my dissertation which was the notion of time, exploring it through the use of the pause button. Starting with a brief historical development of: hight speed photography (the work of Eadweard Muybridge & Harold Edgerton interests me a lot), the Cinema, TV, the VCR and last the invention of the remote control. Leading on to the authors Paul Virilio and Henry Bergson talking about the notion of time as an accident-interruption of the TV and for Bergson as something which renders / supports the idea of time as something which is not a material continuity but something which is fluid and percieved by the self as fluid/unregimented in terms of a phenomenology of experience... And leading on to the conclusion of new technologies that offer us the opportunity to pause real time TV.
